Everyone in the world takes selfies, even your grandma and the president. They are simply the perfect way to show off your assets, get likes on social media, and get attention from your crush or others. Obviously everyone wants to take the best ones that they can, but sometimes they just don’t have the right tips to do so. Lucky for you, we have become experts on this subject and have prepared 9 tips for the perfect selfie just for you. So sit back, relax, and enjoy!
1. Tilt your head at an angle
Tilting your head at an angle is a pic hack to make your face look slimmer! It highlights your cheekbones, makes your eyes look bigger, and is an overall flattering angle. Very few people can pull off the head on angle, so tilting your head to an angle is probably the best bet to look damn near perfect.
2. Find your perfect lighting
Lighting is everything when it comes to taking the perfect selfie. Lighting can make or break everything going on from your makeup to your fly away hairs. Good lighting can make you look radiant, sun kissed and flawless. Bad lighting can make you look tired, washed out, and really bad. This is why it’s so crucial to find lighting that works for you and your skin tone. Typically, fluorescent light is really unflattering. Outside, natural light can go either way, it depends on where you are in relation to the sun. Work with what you’ve got and see what works best.
3. Take more than you need.
You know that old saying practice makes perfect? Well the same goes for taking selfies! The more you take, the more likely you are to take one that you love. The more the merrier when it comes to taking the perfect one. Not even Kim Kardashian can take the perfect one on her first try, it takes a few to get there!
4. Check your background.
Have you ever seen a selfie, then couldn’t help but be distracted by the person’s messy room or toilet in the background? This happens more than it should and it’s very easily avoided. Simply do a sweep check of your surroundings before taking a pic to make sure nothing embarrassing or distracting is in the background.
5. Don’t be afraid to edit.
Don’t let people hate on editing pictures, there’s nothing wrong with it. An edit as simple as enhancing the brightness or contrast goes a long way with improving your picture. Filters can change the style of the picture, like to vintage or black and white. Don’t always assume that editing means hiding something, it’s simply enhancing the picture to be the best it can be.
6. Work your angles all the time.
Everyone is different, so naturally everyone has different angles that are less flattering or more flattering for their face. Find your angle simply by practicing and taking selfies from all different types. Generally, head on doesn’t work for everyone. Don’t be afraid to switch it up and try something new.
7. Don’t be cliche.
No one likes cliches, no matter what the category. With that being said, try and avoid all selfie cliches as much as possible. A simple rule of thumb: if a high schooler would have posted in on Myspace a few year back, then please for the love of god refrain. This includes peace signs, duck face, tongue out- you get the picture. Oh, and the girl laying on her stomach on a bed to make her boobs or butt look big? Yeah, not those either. And although we don’t want to completely nix mirror selfies, they are pretty cliche, especially ones with the flash on.
